Australian astrophysicist Stephen Hughes believes he has the answers for most UFO sightings
Some UFO sightings could be explained by ball lightning and other atmospheric phenomena, claims Australian astrophysicist Stephen Hughes.  The scientist has made a detailed study of an unusual event in 2006 when large meteors were observed over Brisbane.  Their appearance occurred at the same time as a brilliant green object was seen to roll over nearby mountains.

Paranormal investigation team believe they may have a 127-year-old murder mystery on a Pennsylvania farm
Standing in the pitch-black barn on the old Crouch family farm off Horton Road, Randy Waltz posed a question to the darkness.  “Are you happy you got away with it?” asked Waltz, a forensic paranormal investigator.  He and his partner, Denise Gowen-Krueger, waited as a modified AM/FM radio, known as a “hack box,” scanned frequencies. Scattered throughout the barn, four digital voice recorders sat ready to pick up voices, heard and unheard — their red recording lights sharp in the night.  “Yup,” a voice over the radio said.

Mysterious 'Sonic Boom' heard across Western Atlanta ... authorities say it was not a jet!

Authorities west of Atlanta are trying to figure out what caused a spectacular boom that rattled windows and prompted 911 calls.  Residents of Carroll, Douglas and Haralson counties heard the boom around 9:45 p.m. Friday.  Authorities say that no one who called 911 reported any emergency or explosion and no utility companies reported trouble.  One theory that surfaced Saturday was that it might have been a sonic boom — a large shock wave created by an airplane that goes faster than the speed of sound — seems unlikely.

Grandma accused of witchcraft in Ghana burnt to death!
A 72-year-old grandmother suffered one of the most barbaric of deaths when she was burnt alive by a mob at Tema Site 15 after being accused of being a witch.  A student-nurse, who appeared on the scene, attempted to rescue the old woman from her ordeal but she died of her burns within 24 hours of arrival at the Tema General Hospital.  Five people who allegedly tortured and extracted the confessions of witchcraft from Ama Hemmah before drenching her in petrol and setting her ablaze have been arrested by the Tema Police.

'Flying object' falls to the sky in Florida
Several Polk County viewers called FOX 13 yesterday evening to report something in the sky.  The callers believed the object may have been a meteor or other object entering Earth's atmosphere.  Photos sent by one viewer showed the bright object with some sort of vapor or smoke trail behind it. They were taken at around 5:45 p.m.  It's not clear if the object was a passenger jet with its exhaust trail illuminated by the setting sun, or if it was a meteor or piece of space junk being burned up as it entered the atmosphere.  FOX 13 has been unable to reach any experts who could confirm either theory.

Colorado woman creates UFO Watchtower ... in hopes of finding ET!
“I like humans, they’re fun,” Judy Messoline said as she showed a visitor through her vortex garden, which psychics have said contains not just one, but two separate portals to a parallel universe. Many of the humans who come to Ms. Messoline’s U.F.O. Watchtower, hard by the dueling vortexes, may be fun, but they are also wounded. About 95 percent, by her estimate — and she makes a point of asking — have experienced something, a shudder in the fabric of the ordinary, the sighting of an unidentified flying object that to one degree or another has haunted them and drawn them to this otherwise empty spot in south-central Colorado. Having fun in thinking about extraterrestrials, she said, is usually bound up with something deeper right here on the home planet.

New research by archeologists believe that ancient builders used 'ball bearings' to construct Stonehenge
When it comes to mystical places on Earth, few can rival Stonehenge -- the enigmatic stone monument sitting on the Salisbury Plain of southern England. And now comes a new theory that suggests the Neolithic builders who erected Stonehenge may have used ball bearings to move the giant stones into place.  Aligned in a circle and made up of 30 vertical standing stones -- called megaliths -- over 10 feet tall and weighing many tons, Stonehenge is believed to be somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 years old.  An archaeological study, the Stonehenge Riverside Project, suggested in 2008 that the original purpose of Stonehenge was as a burial ground.

Former Secret Service agents voice their opinions about JFK assassination in new Discovery documentary and book.
47 years have passed since the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, but the man who served less than a full term in office still casts a long shadow over the American politics and culture even as his relatives have slowly retreated from it.  A new movie, as well as a documentary featuring Secret Service agents on duty in Dallas when JFK was shot, ensure that the Kennedy assassination will not fade from our minds any time soon.

Rumors that Wi-Fi signals can damage trees is false according to radiology professor

It's an Internet rumor that is spreading, appropriately enough, like wildfire: Wi-Fi signals can make trees and other plants sick, causing cracks in their bark and killing off portions of their leaves. The outlandish claim, supposedly based on a Dutch study, cropped up late last week and has since been repeated in countless blog posts.  In response, the Dutch government's Antenna Agency, which provides information on the health effects of electromagnetic fields, has issued a statement urging caution on the unpublished, unverified and otherwise very preliminary findings.

It is perhaps one of the C.I.A.’s most mischievous secrets. “Kryptos,” the sculpture nestled in a courtyard of the agency’s Virginia headquarters since 1990, is a work of art with a secret code embedded in the letters that are punched into its four panels of curving copper  “Our work is about discovery — discovering secrets,” said Toni Hiley, director of the C.I.A. Is there really a lost unicorn in New York City
Typically, missing-animal posters encourage one to wonder: Have I ever seen that creature?  In the case of one "missing" poster seen on the Upper West Side in New York earlier this month, the lost animal was not a puppy or someone’s cat. It was a unicorn.  Described as a female with a friendly disposition, the missing unicorn in question and the poster belonged to Camomile Hixon, a New York-based painter.  The missing unicorn, in fact, was part of a larger vision for New York City.

Radioactive mouse on the run from Washington nuclear power plant
After catching a radioactive rabbit just north of Richland, Hanford workers now are on the hunt for a radioactive mouse.  Radioactive mouse droppings have been found in the same area where radioactive rabbit droppings were found earlier this month. About 60 mouse traps have been set, but the two mice caught so far have not been contaminated.  The Washington State Department of Health is monitoring the situation, but does not believe there is a danger to the public, said Earl Fordham, the department's regional director of the Office of Radiation Protection.

CERN scientists  traps anti-Matter for first time
Scientists at CERN were able to capture one of the largest mysteries in the universe—antimatter, according to a statement released this week.  In the ALPHA experiment, a team at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland, said they produced and trapped antihydrogen atoms, allowing them to potentially carry out further studies on antimatter’s relation to matter.  “For reasons that no one yet understands, nature ruled out antimatter," said Professor Jeffrey Hangst of Aarhus University in Denmark in a statement. "It is thus very rewarding and a bit overwhelming to look at the ALPHA device and know that it contains stable, neutral atoms of antimatter. This inspires us to work that much harder to see if antimatter holds some secret.”

COMSTECH, an Islamic scientific think tank blames HAARP for global disasters such as earthquakes, including the recent flood in Pakistan!

Comstech’s magnificent headquarters are located on Constitution Avenue in Islamabad. It has been headed by Dr Atta-ur-Rahman since 1996. Although its performance has been consistently mediocre, the organisation has now descended to an all-time low.  Recently Dr Rahman published an eye-popping article entitled HAARP (Dawn, Oct 17). The article claims that a physics research project, based in Alaska, may have been used by the US to trigger earthquakes globally, and could also have caused the catastrophic floods in Pakistan. Dr Rahman concludes with a chilling question: “Is the HAARP then, a harmless research tool — or a weapon of mass destruction far more lethal than nuclear weapons? We may never know.”

Bo Si the Psychic Panda is no Paul the Psychic Octopus!
First there was Paul the octopus, now there's Bo Si, the "psychic" panda.  Bo Si picked a Chinese athlete to be the first gold medal winner of the Asian Games -- and Yuan Xiaochao promptly won for wushu, boosting the popularity of the 12 giant pandas at Xiangjiang Safari Park in Guangzhou.  But given China are so dominant, are favorites to finish top of the medals table and have the biggest squad at the Games, critics said it hardly proved Bo Si's telepathic powers.  And it emerged Bo Si had been given the option to pick a bamboo shoot, which represented a Chinese winner, or an apple for a foreigner. Pandas exist on a bamboo diet.

Brazilian Evangelical Christians warns that using  USB ports is a sign of Satanism!

Evangelical Christians in Brazil have apparently banned the use of USB connections after claiming the technology is the mark of Satan-worshippers (Hat tip: Fernando Frias). Child loses both his feet due to meningitis...because parents had a fear of vaccines!
Over the course of one summer vacation, Tyler Ludlum went from being a healthy 10-year-old, looking forward to the pool, to an emotionally and physically traumatized preteen who'd traded both of his feet, and half the fingers on his right hand, for his life.  It could have been prevented if he – or those around him – had been vaccinated.

Ghost haunts Texas county clerk office where she used to work!
They say she refused to leave her desk after she was voted out of office.  They say it took the sheriff and his deputies to forcibly evict her so the newly elected county clerk could start her term.  And now, they say, she's back.  "That woman drives us nuts sometimes," said Cynthia Jaqua, commissioners' court recorder in the county clerk's office. "There's all kind of strange things that happen."  Jaqua tells the story of how she had gone up to the attic to put away some papers and found the attic light on.  "I said, 'Somebody didn't turn out the light.' Then, bloop, the lights went out. I was nowhere near the light switch. Irene did it," Jaqua said.  Irene, who the folks in the county clerk's office refer to as "our ghost," would be the late Irene Nuhn, who was the Comal County clerk as late as the early 1980s.

California 'Mystery Missile' revealed to be aircraft according to U.S. Pentagon
Since the incident of September 11, Americans have become extremely cautious and careful regarding unusual things in the air as well as on ground. The heated debate started all over the U.S. when a mystery vapor trail that seemed like a Missile launch was filmed off the coast of southern California.  The video captured of Missile launch California grabbed the attention of Americans and became the hottest talk over TV channels, which spend hours on soliciting comments from experts regarding the issue.  More confusion emerged in the country when one of the Pentagon experts claimed that it must be a missile launch in California. After all the conspiracy theories of Missile launch California, civilian experts were the first to announce that it was nothing like missile launch, but an aircraft.  Their comments got approval after Pentagon stepped into the situation and announced on Wednesday that the missile launch incident in California is just a contrail caused by an aircraft.

U.S. Catholic Church conference ends with demand for more exorcists!

The rite of exorcism, rendered gory by Hollywood and ridiculed by many modern believers, has largely fallen out of favor in the Roman Catholic Church in the United States. There are only a handful of priests in the country trained as exorcists, but they say they are overwhelmed with requests from people who fear they are possessed by the Devil.  Now, American bishops are holding a conference on Friday and Saturday to prepare more priests and bishops to respond to the demand. The purpose is not necessarily to revive the practice, the organizers say, but to help Catholic clergy members learn how to distinguish who really needs an exorcism from who really needs a psychiatrist, or perhaps some pastoral care.

...On the other hand Polish Exorcists confident that their numbers are rising in the Catholic Church!
Since 1999 the number of Polish exorcists has surged from 30 to over a 100, despite the influence of the Catholic Church waning in an increasingly secular Poland.  Exorcists attribute the increase in their numbers to growing scepticism in psychology in the wider Polish population, and people looking for spiritual reasons for mental disorders.  In recognition of modern science, however, exorcists now work in tandem with psychologists in order to distinguish between psychiatric problems and the work of the devil.

Devil attacks school children in Trinidad
Panic broke out at the Moruga Composite School yesterday as 17 female students fell mysteriously ill and began rolling on the ground, hissing and blabbering in a strange tongue, after suffering bouts of nausea and headaches. Two of the students reportedly tried to throw themselves off a railing and had to be physically restrained, triggering fears of a possible demon attack. The drama started during the lunch hour in the Form One block and quickly spread to other areas. Form Five student Kern Mollineau, who attends the Lighthouse Tabernacle Church, said he got worried when the girls’ eyes began rolling up in their heads and they began beating up on the ground.

U.S. soldiers with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder hope to find recovery at Native American sweat lodges
It's late afternoon on the Colorado plains, and the sun is disappearing behind the ridge of mountains to the west of us, but all I can see is darkness.  I'm in a traditional Lakota sweat lodge, a 15-foot-wide dome of willow branches covered in thick moving blankets and canvas.  Inside the tiny lodge, 20 of us are shoulder to sweaty shoulder in burning pain. The ceremony leader sings a traditional song, pouring cup after cup of water onto the still-glowing rocks, increasing the heat until voices break the darkness in anguish. Mine would join them if I could, but the heat is like a hundred pounds of sand, pressing me down into submission.  Now I know what it feels like to touch hell.  The ceremony is called inipi, more commonly known as sweat lodge. It is one of seven sacred rites of the Lakota Sioux, and has also been used traditionally as a purification ceremony among many Native American nations.

Ghost sightings doubled after Canterbury earthquake
The "sheer strength and power" of the September 4 earthquake has more than doubled the number of reported supernatural events in Canterbury, a paranormal investigator says.  Christchurch Paranormal Investigators founder Anton Heyrick said his team had received an "interesting influx" of phone calls and emails after the 7.1-magnitude earthquake, with more than double the usual number of inquiries.  "People are calling us, saying that they had always felt like there was something in the house, but since the earthquake it had become more intense," he said.  Most cases related to strange noises, although one man said he had been attacked by a ghost.

Canadian homeowners hope to change address, because the number FOUR means death, according to Chinese numerology
A Markham couple downsizing for retirement got a rude lesson recently in Chinese numerology.  Graham and Lucie Canning moved into a neighbourhood near Highway 7 and Woodbine Ave. in 1984, when it was “pretty much an Anglo community,” Graham Canning says.  Over the years Chinese restaurants opened, Cantonese lettering appeared on local business signs and the neighbourhood’s ethnic composition shifted to favour people of Hong Kong origin.  Such changes suited the Cannings, who continued to live happily in the area, where they raised a son and daughter. But when they recently prepared their house for sale, a real estate agent delivered a surprise.
