Head of British 'bomb detectors' used in Iraq and Afghanistan arrested for fraud, for devices which are mere hi-tech dowsing rods 

Hundreds of people have been killed in horrific bombings in Iraq after a British company supplied "bogus" equipment which failed to detect explosive devices.  The head of the company, which has made tens of millions of pounds from the sale of the detectors, has now been arrested and the British Government has announced a ban on their export to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The search for an Houngan, or traditional voodoo priest, began with a drive through Cite Soleil, the notorious slum on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince. My driver told me that Houngans do not live in the city because they believe there are too many people, who crowd out the spirits. The best way to navigate in Haiti is to ask, because there are few street signs, and no signs telling you where you are. The driver keeps asking, and we are told to search beyond the city's landfill. The road to the landfill is littered with trash that falls from the trash trucks, but the trash dump itself is one of the cleanest places in Port au Prince. In particular, his monumental series of Typhonian Trilogies is creative, innovatory and inspiring, extending across thirty years from the publication of the opening volume The Magical Revival in 1972, to the appearance of the final volume The Ninth Arch in 2002. This is a substantial body of work, constituting a solid foundation for further development, widening and deepening in the years to come; his work will continue.

T'S enough to make your customers' hair stand on end.  Staff at Derby salon Sally Montague believe they have caught a ghost on a security camera.  Workers at the Iron Gate hairdresser were checking CCTV footage after a receptionist had her phone stolen, and were shocked to see a ladder moving on its own.

Three sightings of big cats have been reported in Derbyshire since the new year.  A pensioner said she saw a panther-like creature in her Mickleover garden twice while a motorist claimed she saw a big cat while driving down a country lane.  And a dog-walker said he found a huge paw print in a Brailsford field.
