Psychic channels P.T. Barnum on his 200th Birthday
On his 200th birthday Monday, P.T. Barnum did what he did best. He put on a show -- live from the spirit world.  The famed showman "performed" through a medium standing inside a darkly lit circus ring under the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey's Illuscination tent in Coney Island. Select members of the press formed an audience around the ring during the 45-minute program, which was broadcast via Twitter.  Barnum was represented physically by an 1842 Feejee mermaid -- a strange specimen the showman exhibited to much fanfare -- several photographs of his performers, and an 1892 copy of his autobiography, "Life of P.T. Barnum."

The airspace above the U.S. Capitol is a no-fly zone, but Wilbur Allen says he regularly sees unidentified flying objects overhead.  At dusk, Allen often sits quietly at the base of the Reflecting Pool, his camera pointed toward the Capitol dome, waiting for something, anything, to travel through one of the most heavily secured skylines in the world.
“When it grows dark here, things can get bizarre,” he says matter of factly, peering through the lens of his camera.

Former Charlie Manson 'Family' member Leslie Van Houten denied parole
Leslie Van Houten, the one-time Charles Manson follower long seen as the most likely of his ex-acolytes to win freedom someday, was denied parole Tuesday for a 19th time in the killings of Leno and Rosemary La Bianca.  At the conclusion of the emotional three-hour hearing, the chairman of the parole board, Robert Doyle, said Van Houten was not yet suitable for parole because she had failed to gain complete insight into her crime and its motivation.
