Oregon parents from the faith healing cult Followers of Christ Church convicted for death of their infant daughter who required medical attention

A Clackamas County judge brushed aside pleas for leniency Friday and sentenced two members of an Oregon City faith-healing church to 90 days in jail and three years probation for failing to get medical care for their infant daughter.

Miracle healer in Tanzania pleads with people to stop flocking to his community for miracle cures...due to high traffic to area!

Reverend Ambilikile "Babu" Mwasapile, 76, says he does not want any new arrivals until after Friday 1 April, to let the crowds die down.  Local media report that about 52 people have died while waiting to see him.  A BBC reporter says the queues to see him stretch for 26km (16 miles).

Alabama vampire (and Satanist) burns 'V' into teens forehead with fork!

A 20-year-old man who claims to police he is a vampire has been charged with assault after he burned a “V” into the face of a teenager.


Evan Francis Brown, Albertville, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for second-degree assault, a felony, after he appeared in Gadsden Municipal Court on misdemeanor charges, Gadsden Police detective Mike Hooks said.  Brown is charged in connection with an incident in October in which he allegedly heated a fork or a spoon on the stove and used it to burn a “V” into a 17-year-old’s forehead.

Philadelphia parents go on trial for toddlers death due to faith healing

A Philadelphia forensic pathologist told a Common Pleas Court jury Tuesday that a 2-year-old Rhawnhurst boy would almost certainly be alive had he received routine medical care before he died last year of pneumonia.  "This type of pneumonia, this type of bacteria, is preventable through vaccination and treatable with antibiotics," testified Assistant Medical Examiner Edwin Lieberman, referring to the disease that killed Kent Schaible in January 2009.

Champion, a town in Wisconsin, first place in U.S. to be a recognized as a holy site of the Virgin Mary's apparition

 A Wisconsin site where an apparition of the Virgin Mary allegedly appeared three times to a Belgian-born nun in 1859 has earned the Roman Catholic Church's designation as the only of its kind in the U.S.  The site in the town of Champion has long been a popular destination for the faithful since the apparition was reported by Sister Adele Brise.  But only in the last two years did the Diocese of Green Bay undertake the official process to earn the distinction that puts it in company with sites including Lourdes, France; Guadalupe, Mexico; and Fatima, Portugal.  Bishop David Ricken of the Diocese of Green Bay announced Wednesday he officially approved the sightings as legitimate apparitions at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help at Champion.

Faith Healer in Bedfordshire, UK tortured and murdered, former client accused

The body of Alfusaine Jabbi, 22, was found in Luton's Leagrave park in 2006.  Rubina Maroof, 30, who lived in Pembroke Avenue, Luton, at the time of Mr Jabbi's death, denies murder and conspiracy to imprison Mr Jabbi.  Prosecutors have told Luton Crown Court he was tortured to make him repay money he had charged Ms Maroof.  Pathologist Nicholas Hunt said Mr Jabbi died from a loss of blood and internal bleeding caused by a combination of beatings and a stab wound.

Russia bans witches, warlocks and faith healers from advertising they can cure cancer!

Russian MPs have backed a bill that bans anyone who calls themselves a witch or a wizard from advertising their services in the media in an effort to combat a controversial national obsession with the occult.  According to the Orthodox Church, Russia has 800,000 practitioners of the occult, many of whom advertise in newspaper small advertisements offering cures for alcoholism and spells to lift curses and return errant husbands for a fee. One report claims almost one in five Russians have consulted occult ‘healers’ but MPs have warned they are risking their health and possibly their lives by trusting in such quackery. They say it is time the country grew up.

Oregon faith healing couple plead not guilty to the death of their infant son

Two members of a church that preaches faith-healing pleaded not guilty Monday to manslaughter charges for failing to provide medical care to their infant son, who died shortly after his premature birth.  Attorneys for Dale R. Hickman and Shannon M. Hickman entered the pleas. The Hickmans did not speak during the brief arraignment before Clackamas County Circuit Judge Jeffrey S. Jones
